On the day before the opening of New York Fashion Week, thirty journalists from eighteen countries took part in the tour of New York's midtown garment and fashion district that explored the importance of the fashion industry as an economic engine.  Visiting the Fashion Center Business Improvement District offices, the journalists were briefed by the Fashion Center's Director and Deputy Director on efforts to promote economic development in the district, a Department of Commerce International Trade Specialist who works with the fashion industry to promote American fashion exports, the manager of the Fashion Institute of Technology's Enterprise Center which supports emerging fashion industry companies, and the CEO of a high-end garmet manufacturer based in New York.
