Security and Civil Liberties: Modern Threats, Traditional Values

On a week when security and civil liberties stories dominated the news, the Foreign Press Center kicked off its timely tour with two GWU professors providing an historical view of the traditions of civil liberties in America and concluded with a visit to a local high school to hear from the next generation of Americans.  In between, the group - journalists from some of the largest papers in France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Korea, and China - heard from key Washington players, from civil liberties organizations and attorneys to DHS and the Heritage Foundation to leading lights in the security industry.  The tour provided a comprehensive review of how the U.S. is seeking to secure a nation rich in civil liberties.  As one participant put it, "The tour gave me insights I never would have had without the meetings organized by the FPC."
