Nine journalists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan participated in the tour. The journalists traveled to Washington, San Diego/Tijuana, New York City and Buffalo, visiting both the northern and southern borders of the United States and meeting with a variety of briefers and interviewees, including Congressman Chris Smith of New Jersey, Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, the John Jay College Chair of the Law and Police and Georgetown University's Dean for International and Graduate Programs. In addition to many Department of Homeland Security officials, the journalists met with representatives from a number of other groups, including the International Committee on Migration, the Committee to Protect Journalists, and the United Nations Development Program for Central Asia.
