John Mercurio - Biography

John Mercurio is executive editor of The Hotline, Washington's premier daily online source on American politics. In his 15 years of covering politics in both print and on TV, Mercurio has become one of Washington's leading experts on campaigns, elections and American politics.

A regular guest on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal," John also makes frequent appearances on CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC to discuss campaign news and events. He joined Hotline in September 2005 after working as CNN's political editor for three years. At CNN, John created "The Morning Grind," a popular daily column on politics and Washington.

Prior to that, John wrote for Roll Call newspaper, covering Congressional elections, fundraising and the post-2000 redistricting process. From 1995 to 1997, he wrote for The Washington Times, where he covered politics and government in Maryland and DC. John got his start in journalism as a reporter in suburban Washington, covering politics in several Virginia and Maryland counties for the Journal newspapers.

A native of Maryland, Mercurio received a degree in journalism from Boston University. He now resides in Washington DC.
