On March 22, sixteen journalists visited the Library of Congress and the Gettysburg National Military Park as part of an FPC reporting tour marking the sesquicentennial anniversaries of these key U.S. historical events. The tour began with a visit to the Library of Congress (LoC). There, the group met with an LoC U.S. Civil War historian and viewed one of the five original copies of the Gettysburg Address (Hay Copy). This copy went on display during the morning of March 22 and will be returned to an LoC vault in six weeks.
In Gettysburg, the group went to the Gettysburg National Military Park where they met with the park superintendent, the president of the Gettysburg Foundation and the director of the local tourism bureau. They also had an opportunity to speak with and interview a Civil War reenactor. Following their discussion, the group participated in a guided tour led by a park ranger.
