The Washington Foreign Press Center organized a reporting tour for foreign journalists on January 19, highlighting one of America’s greatest traditions -- volunteerism in the U.S. The tour took place at the DC Armory in advance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, also considered a national day of service. Thousands of volunteers from all over the country were there to participate in a service project - assembling care packages for U.S. Service members, wounded warriors, veterans and first responders.

The journalists interviewed Michele Nunn, CEO of Points of Light; one of the volunteer organizations involved in this service, as well as volunteers working at the site about their experience volunteering their time. A highlight of the tour was a surprise visit to the armory by Vice President Joe Biden and his family, who thanked the volunteers for their service. Journalists from Hong Kong, Australia, Spain, Romania, Colombia, Spain, and China participated in the tour.
