NYFPC hosted a local tour to various companies and organizations representative of New York's answer to California's Silicon Valley. 20 journalists from China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Canada, and various European countries attended the Demo Day for the FinTech Innovation Lab, an annual program sponsored by the New York City Investment Fund and Accenture, where viewed six tech company presentations to an audience of potential investors and senior executives from the financial services sector. Bob Gach, managing director of Accenture’s global Capital Markets industry group, and Maria Gotsch, President and CEO of the New York City Investment Fund, held a special briefing for FPC journalists following the presentations, and gave one-on-one interviews. The journalists also visited prominent New York start-up companies Tumblr and Quirky, and attended a panel briefing with Bruce Bachenheimer, Pace University Program Director of Entrepreneurship, and Euan Robertson, Executive Vice President of the NYC Economic Development Corp. The speakers emphasized New York’s unique, competitive advantage in the technology sector and the importance of the rise of multiple U.S. technology centers to the U.S. economy and the global market.
