On Wednesday, May 23, 33 foreign journalists boarded two Naval Ships and sailed into New York harbor to kick off Fleet Week 2012. Half of the group were helicoptered onto the USS Wasp, and half boarded the Coast Guard Eagle. These vessels were two of 21 U.S. and coalition ships that sailed into the city. Fleet Week New York is the city's celebration of the sea services and provides an opportunity for journalists and private citizens to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as see, first-hand, the latest capabilities of today's maritime services. More than 6,000 service men and women from the U.S. and coalition nations arrived aboard the ships.
