WHAT: U.S. Ambassador Tong and CEOs of Eli Lilly and Company and Johnson & Johnson to Preview APEC 2011 Health Systems Innovation Policy Dialogue

The APEC 2011 Health Systems Innovation Policy Dialogue will bring together ministers of health and private sector leaders in the APEC economies to discuss health systems development and reforms to improve the current and future performance of health systems in member economies.

Ambassador Kurt Tong, U.S. Senior Official for APEC; John C. Lechleiter, Ph.D., chairman, president and chief executive officer, Eli Lilly and Company; and William Weldon, chairman and chief executive officer, Johnson & Johnson, will provide an overview of the topics to be discussed at the meetings.

Following the briefing, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius’ will provide the opening keynote speech for the session that will be open to the media.

Dr. Lechleiter and Mr. Weldon will later participate in the APEC Health Systems Innovation Policy Dialogue. Dr. Lechleiter will speak on “The Global Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Challenge” and Mr. Weldon will take part in the “Health Investment and the Economic Burden of Disease” panel along with APEC ministers of health.

The Third APEC Senior Officials Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM 3) will take place in San Francisco, California, September 11-26, 2011, in preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Honolulu in November.
