The Director and Curator gave the tour, explaining in depth the historical background of African American history and slavery leading up to and after the Civil War, the importance of African Americans in the Union forces, their roles and the how their participation in the conflict helped to shape modern American and our world today. The journalists asked many questions regarding the Abolitionist movement, historical studies and the controversial nature of historiography regarding the Civil War and slavery and their continuing effects in the present.
