Tthe Foreign Press Center accompanied foreign media from Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Taiwan, Armenia, China, Korea, Hungary, Romania, Cameroon, Austria, and Russia to the commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of First Manassas, the first major battle of the Civil War, at the National Park Service site in Manassas, VA. Media filmed the ceremony led by Virginia Governor McDonnell and National Park Service Director Jarvis, interviewed numerous re-enactors in period costumes, NPS historians and superintendents, and filmed a live-fire musket demonstration by the U.S. Marine Corps History Detachment, dressed in Civil War era uniforms—many of whom had recently returned from active duty in Afghanistan.
