Ethnic Media and Ethnic Diversity in Mainstream Media

Seven journalists from Canada, Germany, Nigeria, Russia and Switzerland participated in the one-day tour to examine ethnic diversity in the media and diversity in the mainstream media. Journalists toured Black Entertainment Television (BET) and UNIVISION’s local TV station and were briefed on how major Black and Hispanic broadcasters operate in a diverse environment. Both reach close to 700 million households in the U.S. Additionally, editors and publishers of minority newspapers shared with the foreign press their experiences in working in media specifically geared to reach their own communities.
