From April 25 - May 1, leading European environmental and science journalists traveled to Washington D.C. and Colorado for a tour that focused on green technologies and combating climate change. The goal was for the journalists to attend high-level briefings with U.S. government environmental policy-makers, as well as specialists at leading think tanks. The appointments showcased U.S. leadership in significant innovations in green technology, energy, and climate change policy. Part of the Washington portion included a meeting with Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern, and a Congressional science specialist on the status of legislation on carbon emissions. In Colorado, they visited the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Lab to witness the latest innovations in green technologies, and also to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), to learn about their studies of the environment and the global impact of climate change. They also met with several leading smart grid companies in Colorado to hear how they are pioneering ways to reduce personal and commercial energy use and create greater efficiencies. Participants included journalists from: Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, and Turkey.
