Afghan Provincial Council Members Briefing on Local Governance Issues

Mr. Rahimi and Mr. Paktin, in their position on provincial councils, advise their respective governors on decisions ranging from humanitarian projects to religious issues. They discussed their jobs and the progress being made in their provinces, and in particular provided a unique perspective on local governance issues in Afghanistan. Two media outlets participated in the briefing.
Briefers and ten other participants are taking part in a State Department International Visitors Leadership Program - "Afghanistan Local Government: Serving Citizens and Planning for Community Needs." The 21-day program will examine the structure, transparency, and dynamics of state and local government in the framework of the U.S. federal system of government. Through meetings with government offices and nongovernmental organizations, participants will examine methods of government accountability and public-private partnerships.
