Journalists from Japan, China and Sweden participated in the tour to learn about modernizing the electric grid in order to gain greater energy efficiency. Media heard speakers from the Department of Energy, the Gridwise Alliance, the Edison Electric Institute and the Alliance to Save Energy.
In Philadelphia, the journalists visited the Eastern Interconnector run by PJM Corp., which manages the electrical grid for most of the eastern portion of the U.S. and heard from representatives of Philadelphia's electric utility - PECO - and from the Ben Franklin Technology Partners, which is working to tap into stimulus funds targeted at smart grid technology.
