The Washington Foreign Press Center organized a reporting tour about Transnational Crime for nine journalists from Mexico and Central America in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, Georgia. In Washington, journalists interviewed officials from the Departments of State and Justice (DEA and ATF) and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Topics included the Merida Initiative, narcotics control strategy, arms trafficking and U.S. cooperation with Mexico and Central America on these issues. Participants also interviewed the deputy director of the Polaris Project about human trafficking. The tour continued in Atlanta where the media attended a drug court session and had interviews about crime, how local police work with DEA, drug use, rehabilitation and prevention. The key theme throught the tour was demand reduction.
